Whether it's for work, vacation or just for fun, pickups have become more than just working tools. Today, trucks are also great places to enjoy life, versatile work spaces, meeting rooms and even cafeterias and break rooms. Regardless of the task they are asked to perform, every day is a challenge, and every day they are put to the test, beyond their towing capabilities and maximum payload. With this in mind, we've put together a Top 5 of the best trucks in 2021.

2021 Nissan Titan

The Nissan Titan will leave our markets after the 2021 model year, so this is your last chance to get your hands on this full-size truck in Canada. However, it will still be available south of the border. Having undergone a major transformation in 2020, the Titan and Titan XD are only available with the crew cab and 5.5-foot bed, while its price ranges from just over $52,000 to just under $77,000.

2021 Toyota Tundra

The 2021 Toyota Tundra remains almost identical to its previous model-year, but now only offers all-wheel drive. It is available in new trim, the Trail, and a choice of new colours. We were happy to see the return of 5.7-L i-Force V8 engine, good for 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. It is coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission and boasts a towing capacity of 9,700 lbs. Its standard features include heated front seats, an 8-inch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and the Toyota Safety Sense suite, among others. Available in 4 trim levels, the Tundra starts at just over $46,000 and climbs to just over $63,000.

2021 Toyota Tacoma

The mid-sized 2021 Toyota Tacoma introduces a special Nightshade edition for its new model-year, which features black, dual-zone air conditioning, new body colours such as Army Green and Cement Gray, as well as a new Trail package that includes dark gray 18-inch TRD Off-Road wheels with off-road tires. Its 178-horsepower V6 engine will allow you to tow up to 6,000 lbs, and heel-and-toe enthusiasts will be happy to know that a manual transmission is available besides the automatic transmission, both with 6 speeds. Prices for the Tacoma range from $37,000 to $51,000.

2021 Honda Ridgeline

Redesigned for 2021, the Honda Ridgeline stands out for its underfloor storage space that can carry up to 207 L. What’s more, its rear seats can be folded and its tailgate can be opened two ways. All 4 available versions are powered by the same engine, the 3.5 L V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. This engine is coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission, and this reliable powertrain can tow up to 2,267 kg, or nearly 5,000 lb. You'll have to pay just over $42,000 for the entry-level version and just over $51,000 for the Black Edition.

2021 Nissan Frontier

Since the Nissan Frontier will not be offered for the 2020 and 2021 model-years, since the new generation of this midsize truck is in the works, it's only in 2022 that we'll get to experience the new version. Completely reimagined, the newest generation will boast more muscular lines and a more robust look, as well as a new rectangular grille. It will be available in 2 configurations: the King Cab in S, SV and PRO-4X models, as well as the Crew Cab in SV and PRO-4X models. You will truly be able to make it yours with the choice of 9 colours. Let’s not forget to mention its all-new 3.8 L V6 engine, more powerful than its predecessor, with 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque and a 9-speed transmission, as opposed to 5 for its previous transmission.

All of these trucks shines in their own way, boasting their own strengths and advantages, and they all deserve the title of 2021 Truck of the Year. Come and see them in person at Groupe Spinelli in Montreal, only a few minutes from Laval.
