With the ever-increasing price of gas—and the number of drivers looking to reduce their environmental footprint—the number of hybrid and electric vehicles has literally exploded in recent years.

From the arrival of the Toyota Prius on the market nearly 25 years ago to the unveiling of premium electric SUVs, there are now electrified models for every taste and budget.

And while their high price used to repel many potential buyers, these electric and hybrid vehicles are now offered at increasingly competitive prices.

Does this mean that they are becoming excellent alternatives to the gas-powered car?

Absolutely!

Advantageous government rebates for electric and hybrid cars...

If you choose a 2021 electric car—or a plug-in hybrid model—under $60,000, you could receive a provincial grant of between $500 and $8,000, plus a federal incentive of between $2,500 and $5,000.

...Not to mention fuel economy!

In addition to taking advantage of these incentives, your fuel savings will be substantial, depending on the vehicle model and its use. Not only will you improve the health of our planet, but also the health of your wallet; it's a win-win situation!

What about the driving range of green vehicles?

Like some drivers, you may be worried that your battery will run out of juice while you're on the road. Or that you won't be able to use it in winter. Or maybe you're worried that you won't be able to find charging stations on your way.

These fears can be easily swept away, as many 2021 electric cars offer a range of almost 400 kilometres or even more.

What's more, the network of public charging stations has been extended to the four corners of the province; you can even drive around the Gaspé Peninsula without fear of not reaching the next station! Not to mention the charging stations you can have installed in your home!

Finally, like a gas-powered vehicle, the driving range of electric models decreases in winter, but rest assured: many drivers use their electric cars without any trouble, even when the temperature drops as low as -35 degrees!

That's all well and good, but which electric or hybrid car should you choose?

In the same way that you shop for a gas-powered vehicle, taking into account price, available space and power, the choice of an electric or plug-in model will essentially depend on your needs and budget.

Groupe Spinelli has compiled a Top 8 list of the best 2021 electric and hybrid vehicles which you can find in our various Spinelli dealerships; here they are, in alphabetical order of manufacturer.

2021 Kia Niro EV

Another electric Kia SUV, the Niro EV is available at a base price of $46,905 and offers 201 horsepower, for a city/highway fuel economy of 1.9/2.3 Le/100 km.

2021 Toyota Camry Hybrid

This mid-size sedan never ceases to amaze and seduce us! Now available in a hybrid version—just like the popular Corolla—the Camry Hybrid offers a very attractive output of 208 horsepower and energy efficiency ranging from 4.9/4.8 to 5.3/5.0 L/100 km. For $33,819, it's a great deal, isn't it?

Toyota RAV4 Prime

The RAV4 Prime is the plug-in version of the RAV4, and what a version! It develops an output of 302 horsepower—making it the most powerful RAV4 to date—and offers a fuel economy of only 5.7/6.4 L/100 km, as well as a range of 68 kilometres in all-electric mode.
